HOLYOKE — Behind fences, quiet streets and even in the middle of downtown, gardens of all shapes and sizes are blooming across Holyoke. On Saturday, residents will have the chance to explore the gardens during the Holyoke Historical Society’s annual garden tour. The tour will feature 12 private gardens, ranging from large, manicured estates to small, urban plots. This year’s tour also includes a special focus on native plants and sustainable gardening practices.

“We’re excited to showcase the diversity of gardening in Holyoke,” said Sarah Chen, president of the Historical Society. “It’s amazing to see how people are transforming their spaces, no matter the size. We have everything from elaborate rose gardens to whimsical fairy gardens.”

The tour, which begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m., is a self-guided event. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance at the Holyoke Historical Society’s office or online. On the day of the tour, tickets will be available at the society’s office and at each garden.

The Historical Society hopes the tour will inspire residents to create their own beautiful green spaces. “Gardening is such a rewarding hobby,” Chen added. “It’s a great way to connect with nature, de-stress, and even grow your own food. Plus, it really adds beauty to our city.”

In addition to the garden tour, the Historical Society will also host a plant sale at their office from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. A variety of perennials, annuals, and herbs will be available, many of which are grown by local gardeners.
